At our plant all grey water generated during operations is stored and reused. We recycle all pallets, aluminum and paper, and we’ve successfully implemented a closed-loop process with recycled cardboard. At our Morrow, GA plant, the fork lifts use soybean based hydraulic oil, and our imperfect and damaged china is crushed and recycled back into roadbed construction.

Our belief in the idea of doing more with less doesn’t just stop at the factory floor. We recently purchased 480,000 kilowatt-hours of Green Energy® from Georgia Power and we encourage our employees to practice sustainability at home. For example, we offer incentives for employee owned hybrid cars, and if their town or neighborhood doesn’t recycle, they can bring their recyclables into work to be added to our plant recycling.

Measuring our efforts.

To hold ourselves accountable to our sustainability objectives, we utilize a number of independent programs to help us monitor and track the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes. These include:

EPA National Environmental Performance Track
This is the “gold standard” for facility-based environmental performance, and it recognizes and drives environmental excellence by encouraging facilities with strong environmental records to go above and beyond their legal requirements. TOTO consistently meets or exceeds its standard performance commitments.
  Climate Southeast Partner
The Climate Southeast partnership, a project of The World Resources Institute (WRI) builds strategies for companies to thrive in a carbon-constrained economy. Partners develop greenhouse gas (GHG) management systems, share energy management practices and invest in clean energy. Climate Southeast partners include major corporations such as Coca-Cola, UPS and Delta Airlines among many others.

EPA SmartWay Transportation Program
TOTO is a partner in the EPA’s innovative collaboration between the EPA and the freight industry to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.
World Resources Institute Member
The World Resources Institute (WRI) is an environmental think tank that goes beyond research to find practical ways to protect the earth and improve people’s lives.

National Institute of Standards and Technology
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides an evaluation program and standard metrics for comparison of the Life Cycle impact of buildings and products. TOTO has used their format to help us understand the impact that our products have on the environment.
ISO 9001 and 14001
TOTO manufacturing facilities are ISO 9001 (Manufacturing and Process Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management and Consistent Improvement) certified. ISO quality management systems are measurement tools designed specifically to help manufacturers regulate and improve the environment of their facilities.
